June
The Loi Rua Chao Le Tradition is held in the middle of the 6th and 11th lunar month by Chao Le (Sea Gypsies). Those living at Hat Rawai and Ban Sapam will celebrate the tradition on the 13th day of the waxing moon while Chao Le at Laem La (in north Phuket) will do so on the 15th day. It is a ritual to cleanse out the bad luck similar to the Loi Krathong of the Thais. Small boats made of Rakam wood are fashioned in which bits of cut hair and nail and dolls representing people are placed and floated away, symbolizing the floating away of all unlucky things. |
